Baby Massage: An Exercise To Nurture Baby's Well Being

Daily baby massage is great way to communicate with your child. With soft touches you communicate and create a bond with your kid in a wonderful manner. Baby massage is also one of the most satisfying feelings that a mom receives. The murmur of the skin on the baby enriches the parent-kid relationship.

Baby massage is essential for every baby. It is an exercise to nurture the baby's well being. Besides the soothing pleasure that the baby gets through a massage, it also enhances his immune system and helps in the reduction of colic in babies. Massaging babies can be little difficult, especially for the first-time moms. They need to understand that their kid is too delicate and needs a touch of tenderness. If you are concerned, read these "baby massage tips" to know all about baby massage basics.

Before you start massaging your baby, assemble all things together- massage oil, tissues paper, clean diapers, and clean clothes.

Prepare for a baby massage. Timing is essential; do not massage your baby just after you fed him, nor should he be given a massage when he is hungry. Make yourself comfortable. Find a warm and smooth surface for your baby. Ensure that the room is warm. Start talking to your baby or sing a song. You can also play a soft music in the background.

Choosing a good baby massage oil is essential. Get natural oils. Almond oil is the best. Warm the oil if you feel it's cool. Do not overuse massage oil. Take only half-a-teaspoon of the oil and rub on both your palms. Apply soft and gentle touches to your baby's body. You can take more oil when you feel it's needed.

At first massage the front part of the body. Begin with the head. Gently massage the baby's head. Do not massage on the soft part of your baby's head. Then massage his forehead smoothly. Place the thumb of both your hands on the baby's forehead. Now press outward in a calm manner. After massaging the forehead, massage his jaw area; it will help him during teething.

Next, the arms and the fingers need to get a gentle massage. After arms and fingers, massage his stomach from right side to the left. The legs should be massaged in the same manner as the arms.

Now turn your baby. Massage his back by stroking- first back and forth, then in straight lines right from the shoulders to feet. When finish give him a kiss on his forehead.

If your baby is an infant, avoid using oil on his face. If your baby is less than four months do not massage him for more than 10 minutes. Babies older than that can be given 20 to 30 minutes of baby massage.

The benefits of a baby massage are innumerable. Regular exercise makes the baby grow in a healthy manner. While it is one of the most gratifying moments for the parent and pleasurable to the child, daily baby exercise improves his overall development. You can massage your baby till he is three to four years of age.
