Let us now look at the different types of diabetes:
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes is a disease, which is autoimmune. This type of diabetes is results due to the destruction of the beta cells. This destruction of beta cells occurs due to the aggressive nature of cells present in the body. According to researchers some of the etiology and risk factors, which may cause type 1 diabetes may be a genetic occurrence due to bad food quality and environmental factors (e.g.- virus attack). Moreover, problem in secretion of certain hormones, such as the Adrenocortical hormone, the Adrenaline hormone and the Thyroid hormone; are some important factors behind deadly diabetes. These hormones act as antagonists to insulin.
Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetes is also called non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes. This occurs when there is sufficient production of insulin in the body but the body is unable to use this insulin effectively. Generally, middle-aged people develop this type of diabetes. Almost 90-95% of people suffering from diabetes contract type 2 of this disease and about 80 percent of such people suffer from obesity at the same time. It is likely that people with a family history of diabetes contract type 2 of this disease. Also, people whose births were influenced by gestational diabetes, also suffer from type 2 diabetes.
Other causes of Diabetes are as follows:
- Hereditary or Inherited Traits: It is strongly believed that this disease can be hereditary. It is possible that some genes containing the factors responsible for diabetes is passed from one generation to another. This actually depends upon the closeness of blood relationship. If a mother is diabetic, the risk is 2 to 3%, if a father is found to be diabetic the risk is more, whereas if both the parents are diabetic, the child runs a huge risk of contracting diabetes.
- Age: It is observed that diabetes is more common among adults. The chances of contracting the disease at a younger age are very slim. But nevertheless this disease may occur at any age, but 80% of cases occur after 50 year, incidences increase with the age factor.
- Inferior Diet (Malnutrition): You have to intake quality mineral and vitamin enriched food to maintain a healthy body. If you consume low protein and fiber enriched food and intake oily food, you may fall victim to diabetes.
- Obesity and Fat Distribution: People, who gain extra weight, are prone to fall victims to diabetes. Additional weight puts up strong insulin resistance. So, you have to maintain your proper weight.
- Hectic Lifestyle: People with hectic lifestyle are easy victims to diabetes. Even if you have to maintain a hectic professional life, resorting to exercise for couple of times in a week will protect you from the cruel clutches of diabetes.
- Stress: Physical wound or emotional trouble is generally regarded as the primary reason of the deadly disease. Any trouble in Cortiosteroid or ACTH treatment can reveal marks of the disease.
- The Ill Affects of Drug: Several strong medicines like olanzapine (Zyprexa), quetiapine (Seroquel), Clozapine (Clozaril) and ziprasidone (Geodon) have proven as sources of this silent disease.
- Infection: Some of the strephylococci is supposedly held responsible for infection in pancreas.
- Sex: Diabetes is a prevalent problem of the grown up males. But women with complications like multiple pregnancy or PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) are also easy prey to this silent killer.
