Diabetes Management

Diabetes is non curable disease. It leads to kidney failure, stroke and many other problems. So, diabetes management is important.

There are two types of diabetes—diabetes insipidus and diabetes mellitus.

The first type is a very rare one; some cases of it can be controlled by daily injections of pituitary extract. Diabetes mellitus is commonly caused among people.

Much of the food which is taken is transformed to glucose for the nutrition of cells of human body. A person develops diabetes when the body is unable to use the transformed sugar. As a resultant effect there is lack of energy and growth. Insulin (a hormone) secreted from pancreas, is needed to carry the glucose through blood for this nutrition of cells. Diabetic symptoms include weight loss, frequent infections, increased urination, lassitude, debility, excess thirst, blurred vision, fatigue and excessive hunger.

Diabetes management is very much needed since it is a dreaded disease. The diabetic patients need regular diet modifications in accordance with sugar level. The dietician plans the right diet in terms of calorie for patients.

Regular exercises: Regular exercises are essential. Exercises help to reduce the risk of high level sugar and helps in losing weight. The patient must consult the doctor before practicing the exercises. The diabetes management becomes more problematic if patient also suffers from hypertension which leads to heart attack.

Medicines: Blood sugar or diabetes management is of great importance. A diabetic patient should always take medicines (insulin/tablets) as prescribed for keeping his/her blood glucose levels under control. All the diabetic patients do not need to inject insulin. Insulin injection is only needed if the doctor feels it necessary.

Reduce weight if overweight: The sugar patient should reduce weight if he/she is overweight.
Maintain a controlled diet: The person should maintain a controlled diet and must give up his/her sedentary habits for diabetes management. Green vegetables are main diet for this kind of patient.
Get treated under supervision of expert diabetician: It is always important to get treated under the supervision of an expert diabetician.  Such experts check the patient at periodic intervals so that the sugar level is kept under control. Blood pressure should be checked regularly.

Stress and strain play a great role in increasing the sugar level. The patient must talk about the problem with the doctor for proper adjustment in the dosages of medication. Exercises that help in stress management should also be practiced.

Complexities relating to management

  • The glucose cycle is a system that is affected by 2 factors—entry of the glucose in the bloodstream and blood levels of insulin to control its transport out of bloodstream.
  • As a system, it's quite sensitive to exercise and diet.
  • It is affected by the need for user anticipation because of the complicating effects of time delays between any respective and activity impact on glucose system.
  • Management is intrusive highly and compliance is simply an issue because it depends upon user lifestyle change and upon regular sampling and measuring of glucose levels, many times a day in most of the cases.
  • It changes as individuals develop and grow-up.
