Hyundai Eon – Starting A New Era Of Small Cars In India

The EON is a recently launched small car from the portfolio of Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL), which is a unit of South Korean auto giant Hyundai Motors. The strategy behind the launch of new Hyundai EON in the Indian market was to capitalize on the high demand for this segment of small cars, while at the same time grabbing a significant chunk of the sales of volume driving Maruti Alto. It is to be mentioned here that Maruti Alto has been the bestselling car in the Indian auto market for a long time now, being almost unchallenged since its debut.

The new Hyundai Eon has been developed on a completely new platform and is blessed with the company’s fluidic design language, the same design characteristic used in Hyundai Verna Fluidic has been receiving overwhelming response from the Indian buyers. Interestingly, instead of being a competitor of Alto, the all new Eon is eating into the sales of its own sibling Hyundai Santro Xing. The car has been competitive positioned in the price segment of Rs. 2,70,000 to Rs. 3,71,000 (Ex-showroom price). Moreover, the EON is also available in LPG version in the country, which comes with a factory fitted LPG kit. The EON LPG is about Rs 27,000 costlier and carries a 34-litre LPG tank along with a 32 Liter Petrol tank.

The new fuel efficient Hyundai Eon comes powered by an Epsilon 814cc 3 cylinder petrol engine that delivers a peak power output of 55 bhp at 5500 rpm along with a massive torque output of 75 NM at 4000 rpm, much higher as compared to the Alto’s 47 Bhp power and 62 Nm torque. All variants of the car come loaded with a standard five speed manual transmission gearbox.

Similarly, the mileage of the new Hyundai Eon (21.1 km per liter as certified by Automotive Research Association of India), is considerably higher as compared to the 19.7 km per liter of Maruti Alto. The car takes just over 17 seconds to break the speed barrier of 100 km per hour, and has a top speed of 138 km per hour.

Being a highly environment friendly car, the Hyundai Eon has bagged the prominent Environmental Certificate based on a lifecycle assessment from TUV NORD, Germany, in accordance with the ISO 14040 standard. A specially developed ‘Alternator Management System’ (AMS) has been added in the car to make the car even more eco-efficient.

The product planning team of Hyundai has intelligently lined-up a range if new age exciting features at the fronts of safety, comfort & convenience, and style. The car is currently available in 8 trims including D-Lite, D-Lite+, D-Lite+ BlueDrive LPG, Era+, Era+ BlueDrive LPG, Magna+, Magna+ BlueDrive LPG and Sportz. The maximum safety of the car as well as passengers has been assured by the addition of features like the driver side airbag (in the top end variant). While at the same time, a basket full of technological and interior features add more glitter to the car including the likes of music system (with USB port and AUX-in), Keyless entry, Front fog lamp-clear lens, central locking and many more.
