Having a baby is the best part of a woman’s life. And picking up a baby name might seem easy but is the most difficult. It is something that will represent your baby all his life. So choose a name keeping your child in mind.
Just a few things to keep in mind when selecting your baby’s name –
- Make sure the name you pick will not be teased by the other kids in school. A name could be really nice but it could make your child uncomfortable if the kids in school make fun of it.
- Narrow down your search. Do you want to name the child after someone, if you want a short or a long name, are you looking for a traditional name or just an easy and small name.
- If you like a name, see if it matches with the last name. Say it out loud. If your last name is long, keep the name short and a long name will go well with a shorter last name.
- If you don’t like a name that is very common it is good for your child. If the name is common or say popular then the chances of other kids with the same name is high. To have an uncommon name will help your kid to develop individuality. If your child is shy and does not like attention you could use a common name. But then again he or she will not get a chance to come to the spot light. So make a wise decision.
- If you want to name the baby after a family member and you don’t particularly like the name you can use the family name as the middle name and you get to choose the name you like best for your child. Don’t let anyone influence you on the baby name. This is your baby and it is your decision. You don’t want your child to live with a name he or she doesn’t like.
- Keep in mind that it is better to have a name with a meaning. The child might not want to know what her name means but we all know that the meaning can make a difference. If your name means beautiful or kind you will definitely like it and in some way will start relating your self to it. Feel good factor is always good to keep.
- Pay attention to the initials of your child’s name. A name might be very nice and the meaning even better. But what if the initials of the entire name combine together to spell out something you never want your child to be called? Now that would be embarrassing for your child not only through out school but also later on.
- And last but not least, please do not share the name that you have chosen with anyone. It will only lead to confusion and debate. Once the baby is born and you think everyone is ready you can tell them. This way before you tell everyone you will get a chance to call you baby with the name you have chosen. You will be the first one to see if it suits your child.
