A small bit of history about women’s fragrances and perfumes will give you an idea of how and why they are held in such high regard for the people that wear them. It actually goes as far back as the ancient Egyptians, in the days of Cleopatra where perfume was actually a symbol of status and endeared respect from her followers. It still has the same effect to this day, and people are often complimented on their smell when they wear a fragrance that they really like. Especially if you can find a perfume that compliments your skin type and it accentuates the way you look and feel around others. Knowing that you look and smell great gives you that confidence boost that becomes visible to other people when they are around you.
Fragrances have changed quite a bit over the years in that back in the day they were mostly oil based and completely natural, but these days womens fragrances and perfumes are completely chemical and synthesised in a laboratory by a chemist who sits and combines different chemicals to create the various smells. It sounds almost debasing to put it like that when you consider what it is that they achieve when you spray it out of the bottle for the first time, but at least it gives you an idea of how they are made. The majority of the fragrances you buy on the market are alcohol based as it provides a good base to build all the other chemicals on. When the alcohol evaporates it releases the other chemicals that then combine to create a specific smell. Depending on what the chemist has added you get a floral, fruity, citrus, sweet, spicy or aromatic smell. Higher concentrations of the perfumes tend to be more expensive as they contain more of the compound and can be used in smaller doses. A simple dab on each side of your neck would suffice enough to last you the whole day. The sprays tend to be more diluted but can be sold in bigger amounts for more money. It’s all about the money at the end of the day and you may not know this but more than a quarter of what you spend on any given perfume is actually coming from the bottle itself.
So much research and marketing goes into play with the new fragrances that it takes up the bulk of the cost. At least you know you will get your money’s worth because you know you are going to smell great.
