Inclement Weather And Driving

There are other people who feel this way as well- as if they don't want to have to go outside if they can help it because doing so might mean putting themselves in danger.

Inclement weather can include things such as rain, sleet, snow, ice or in some cases wind. It is often the cause of numerous car accidents for those of us who either refuse to stay put indoors or who have no choice but to brave the elements in order to get to work. That being said, if you find that you must drive outside during bad weather, make sure that you exercise caution while doing so. There have been plenty of instances where I have witnessed people hydroplaning on the side of the roadway simply because they were traveling too fast or because they weren't paying attention to the fact that there was standing water on the side of the road. Therefore, as a general rule, whenever the weather outside is bad, I always make it a point to slow down, even if I feel like I don't really need to. If anything, this forces others to slow down and in some cases think about why I might be slowing down.

If you have ever driven behind someone else who seems to be going too slow, then you may have wondered why it was they were driving so slow. In thinking through something like this, you may find that their reasons for driving slow are valid ones. For example, several days ago, I was approaching a stop sign at an intersection when I noticed that there was someone ahead of me who had been sitting there for a few minutes. Just as I started to wonder why he or she was sitting there for so long, I was able to observe the person in the driver's seat turn off an interior light, look down, look up and then put what looked like a paper on the front passenger seat. They then did a U-turn and headed back in the opposite direction. It appeared as if they were looking at directions or had forgotten something at home.

Whatever your reasons for driving slow, there is no better time to drive slowly than when you are driving through bad weather. Even something as simple as a little rain can stretch a long way towards becoming a problem if you are not careful. Beware of other drivers when it is wet out. Again, sometimes, it isn't the weather that we have to worry about so much as it is the other drivers out there! Whether it is sunny outside or snowing, raining or sleeting, exercise caution whenever you sit behind the wheel of a car. It helps to remember that the best offense is a good defense, meaning that you can be the best driver out there, but it doesn't mean anything if you are not prepared to react to other external factors.
