Tying to pick a hair color is not very difficult. First you need to know what kind of hair color you want a highlight or a full hair color. The second thing to keep in mind is your complexion and the third is the type of hair style. If you are going to a professional then they can help you. But if you want to color your hair at home and can not figure out the color that will suit you then I suggest testing it. Colored hair need a lot of attention, so invest in a nice color enhancing shampoo and conditioner.
Try taking the colors and matching it with your skin tone and you eyes. It gives a basic idea of what might look good.
Brunette
If you are wondering if brown is the color for you, here are a few things to help you out. If you hair is already brown and needs a deepening and richer color then go for it. Brown color is easy to apply at home and maintain unless you are a natural blonde. Brow hair is also good for dull or damaged hair, as dark hair reflects more light thus hides away breakage and makes hair look shiny. But it should suit your complexion and hair style. If you have a short hair or layered hair cut, keep the end of the layers highlighted to enhance the effect and the haircut. But if you have an even length through out then a full color will suit you best. To get the best brown at home try mixing the shade you like with a neutral color dye before applying it. This will give you a much balanced look and avoid a warm orangey look. Keep it mind to use as little as possible of hair sprays and use more of hair shine serum, because hair sprays makes the hair look dull as it takes the shine off the hair color. When you want a really dark color, be sure to go to a saloon as incase you go wrong it is very difficult to get rid of a black color. Highlight you hair with a little makeup. Make sure you keep in mind your hair color during applying makeup. If you have gone a few shades darker to brown, use a dark mascara to balance out the look. Since your hair color is now brown you can have a heavy eye make up, so highlight your eyes. With the dark hair you could use bronze shimmer to highlight your face.
Red hair
Ruby color is a head turner. So if you think you can carry red hair then get ready for some attention. But keep in mind, if your skin is towards the pinkish tone red hair will suit you. Be sure to find the right red for your skin tone. With a light skin tone like a golden or olive might not find ret to suit or enhance there complexion. If you have a pale skin tone, try going only a few shades darker in the beginning rather that a very dark shade. To color your hair red you have to take extra care of your hair. Damaged or dry hair have problem holding on to the color molecule and hence the color might not spread evenly or even come out much quickly. Keep your hair conditioned, don’t use heat to style your hair everyday and keep them healthy with regular hair care and hair cuts. But don’t wash your hair everyday it will lighten your hair color, wash them just twice a week. But if you have oily hair or thin hair then alternate day washing is ok but remember not to use very hot water and invest in a nice shampoo and conditioner for colored hair. Be careful because some shampoos can damage the hair color like a strong dandruff shampoo will fade the red color much quicker than it could last. If you go to a professional for hair coloring be sure to take a kit that can help you touch up your hair for the next few weeks. Most stylists would give them to you at a decent price. If not you could ask them how you could touch up or you could buy a nice color boosting glazes to apply on your own. Also remember to protect your hair and hair color. Use a nice ultra violet proof styling product, use a nice hat or a scarf. While using makeup, avoid a lot of eye makeup it will only take away the attention form your hair. Use pinks on lips and cheeks it will help highlight your face. Don’t try to match your eye lashes or eye brow with your hair color it will look weird.
Blond hair
Going blond? Well a bold choice to take and if it suits your skin tone, you will have tons of admires. When in doubt, try going only a few shades lighter than you hair color initially. If you had a light or a blond hair tone when you were younger then you will look good with a blond look. Being blond is not very easy to maintain nor is it cheap. Think of it as nothing good can come easy or cheap. Well if you invest in a blond look you have to take out time for regular touch ups and taking care of them with the right products. If you are coloring your hair at home, remember to stick to more natural and neutral shades. If you choose a warm color dye, you could end up with a golden orange shade. Use alcohol free products for your hair. Having blond hair is like having dry and dull hair if you don’t maintain it properly, and using alcohol base products will lead to just that. So check the products before you buy. If you want a highlight avoid getting a while one this will only make you look pale and tired, instead ask you stylist to create a golden base and then apply the highlights. Let a professional handle the hair color if you are looking to go lighter that 2 tones. It is better to let an expert handle it to avoid wasting time and getting exactly what you want. To touch up your roots before making a visit to the saloon again try using a gray blond color on just your roots and wash it off in three minutes. This will save you some time and help you in an emergency. While using makeup keep in mind the blond hair. Use more peaches it will flatter your hair and complexion. Use a brown mascara to balance out the look, avoid black ones as they will just end up contrasting with your hair. If you use a red lip color use it more in the evenings.
