The insurance sector is fast becoming one of the most profitable industries. With more people becoming aware of the importance of buying insurance policies, the sector is seeing a rise in the number of clients and insurance companies. But, for those who find it tedious or confusing learning about the various types of policies in existence, there is help at hand. Insurance brokers are there you understand and compare the different policies and taking the help of their services will greatly aid you in choosing the right one.
Insurance brokers can represent more than one agency. Their mission is to sell policies or obtain clients for these agencies. Aside from this, they advise clients on risk management, the types of risks they face and what policies would best suit them. If one policy doesn’t cover all that the insured person needs, then the broker will help him choose others that fill in the gap.
Becoming a broker requires a person to obtain a bachelor’s degree and majoring in finance or business. While this is a minimum requirement, companies may also hire those who are mentoring under an insurance expert. To keep up with what’s new, brokers also attend seminars or take up courses to this effect.
Each state will have its own licensing laws and a broker will have to obtain the necessary license to be able to operate. This will allow them to get jobs as insurance wholesalers. In order to gain employment, companies – disability insurance carriers included – may also ask that brokers complete certain courses.
Representatives of insurance wholesalers can organize their time around their clients which may also require them to work odd hours. Since they spend a large part of their schedule meeting with clients, their jobs can run into the night or as per the clients’ timings.
Insurance agencies are many and sell all kinds of policies ranging from life insurance to motor vehicle insurance. As such, brokers can represent disability insurance carriers and others that aren’t related. The scope for success for brokers is quite bright and the United States’ Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that job opportunities will rise by as much as 12 percent till 2018.
