Adventure Mountain Biking With Martin Simich

After riding a mountain bike for more than five years now I have become quite the experienced cyclist on a mountain bike. I originally started out by riding out on the roads, just building up my fitness levels, and I eventually progressed to strapping the bike to the back of my car and driving out into the middle of nowhere just to find some rough and rugged terrain to make my rides a bit of a challenge. It was really a great way to improve my skills on a bike and even though I can’t do all those crazy tricks that you see some of the guys doing on a bike, I can still cross some of the hardest off road routes you can find and still come out on the other side looking strong and ready to go the rest of the way without any bother.

So how does one get out and find all these cool places to ride without getting lost in the woods? Well for starters you can take a look at where the others are doing it. My for Martin Simich has a number of riding videos that show downhill championships, mad tricks and even has guys wiping out from some crazy outdoor trips. Regardless of what it that happens on these videos, you can at least find out where they are and start from there. You can measure whether the routes are flat and just need you to cover great distances across back country areas, or if you have to do some actually mountain biking where you have to hop over rocks and make jumps on your bike where you could fall and hurt yourself quite seriously. Believe it or not, I actually try to go on those rides where the ride pushes the limits a little. I’ve ridden along cliff edges where the drop is well over a 150 meters to the bottom. One small slip up on those trails and I’d be in serious trouble, but with a little bit of experience you can learn to handle yourself even when the risks are high. It is always important to keep your own safety in mind when you go riding, and having the right gear is really important.

Most cyclists feel a helmet is unnecessary for example, but if you bail and you land wrong you could end up being a vegetable for the rest of your life and that means that everything is over, not just the riding. Make sure you are careful wherever it is that you go, and you will always feel satisfied at the end of a ride.
