Bangladeshi Brides are adorned with numerous embellishments from head to toe and they are the major attraction on their big day. The beauty and charm of the bride is enhanced with gorgeous bridal wear, sparkling and eye-catching jewelry, natural makeup, etc. Irrespective of the variation in adornments, Bangladeshi brides had the custom of wearing bridal costume in yellow as the color is considered auspicious. Even though the traditional practices are changing and majority of brides wear the wedding costume in various colors also.
When we think about the modern Bangladeshi bride, we can instantly picture a beautiful girl wearing a red saree, appear similar to a fresh and lovable red rose. Red, being a lavishing, eye-catching and auspicious color is preferred. Followed by the traditional saree in red or yellow, brides prefer to wear lehenga on their big day instead of sari. In major cities of Bangladesh, Lehenga has become the bridal wear. Next to costume, jewelry is paid more attention. Until past couple of decades, Bangladeshi brides used to wear a lot of jewelry. However, it had been transformed to wearing minimal jewelry due to constant change in trend and high cost of gold. Yet, we cannot deny that there are still huge numbers of families who prefer the gorgeousness of gold to adorn the bride from head to toe.

Similar to bridal wear and jewelry, in Bangladeshi marriages, brides tend to give significance to makeup. In olden days, brides are embellished with natural herbs to enhance their charm and beauty. Now, makeup is also considered an integral part of the beautifying the bride. Only in few families brides are taken to beauty parlor, where in majority of cases, the makeup team from the parlor attends the brides at the wedding venue. Proper hair cut, different kinds of hair treatment, skin care treatment, facial, magnificent mehendi (henna) design etc. are done there with optimum care. Even though brides prefer wearing makeup, they use limited cosmetics.
Mehendi is one of the major functions in Muslim wedding, which is also applicable to Bangladeshi wedding. Some of the families organize the ceremony exclusively and draw the mehendi design on bride’s hands and legs, where they conduct the function in the traditional manner. On the contrary, due to time constraint, the makeup team appointed from beauty parlor draws the mehendi design.
