Aphrodisiac is a name that comes from the Greek Goddess Aphrodite, who was the goddess of love and sexuality. It is basically a substance that increases sexual desires. Apart from being health certain foods also have a direct effect on the sexual activity and this is because of the effect they have on the energy levels and the chemical activities of the brain and also the effect they have on the hormones. Research has shown that natural and right aphrodisiac foods do have a positive impact on both men and women.

Oysters: Next to chocolates, oysters are said to be an effective aphrodisiac food. It is said to increase sexual desires in both men and women. The high zinc content of the oysters are said to help in production of sperm and also increase testosterones in men and women. Oysters are a symbol of potency and are also an excellent source of protein.
Cardamom: this ancient spice is a well known aphrodisiac. The pods are said to increase the blood flow and this is probably the reason why it is known as aphrodisiac food.
Pine nuts: They are loaded with zinc that is essential for producing testosterone. Pine Nuts are known to be used since the middle ages for providing men with sexual stamina.
Garlic: Though it may smell pungent, the content allicin in it increases the blood flow and this result in improving the stamina.
Honey: Vitamin B supports production of testosterone which helps increase desire. Boron in Honey also produces estrogen which is known to increase desire in female.
Bananas: apart from its shape, bananas are also filled with Vitamin B, Magnesium, and Phosphorus which help in increasing the male libido.
Basil: The smell of the basil leaf alone is said to be aphrodisiac. Its taste is also said to stimulate sexual desires and increase the heart beat. Some even say that a basil leaf resembles a female sexual organ.
Apart from the above mentioned foods figs, champagne, carrots, ginger, coconut water, asparagus, avocado and many more are said to have aphrodisiacal qualities. These foods are being used since centuries. So, if stress of the daily routine is taking its toll on personal life and intimacy is taking a backseat then, it is advisable to consume any of the above mentioned foods.
