Creativity - The Urge to do Something New

Creativity is the urge to make new things which are unique and original. From time immemorial, humans have shown an interest to do something new. This thirst for knowledge and activity has led to the origin of creativity. Be it discovery of fire, the first paintings by cave men or the masterpieces of Leonardo Da Vinci or Michelangelo, all of them have a creative instinct associated with them.

According to researchers and scientific studies, the term creativity is a type of mental and social process which involves the idealization, thinking and new ideas which are totally original. It is also a type of communication process which portrays the changing trends, culture, customs, tradition and way of life of the people. In most cases, the instinct of creativity is based on both conscious and unconscious insight.

Creativity is analyzed in terms of different factors and causes. Some of the most important factors and fields of study which are related to creativity are social psychology, psychometrics, behavioral psychology, philosophy, aesthetics, history, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, business, management, design, and research and so on. Compared to scientific theories, creativity is driven by several thought processes which make it such a unique and diverse aspect of human phenomenon.

According to biological and medical science, it is mainly the right or forehead of the brain that induces creative instincts in us. To some extent, the process of lateral thinking also plays a major role in creativity. Scientists say that creativity is a type of "assumptions-breaking process". They come into existence when one refuses to follow the preconceived assumptions and tries to attempt a new approach.

Boosting creativity

There are a number of ways for boosting creativity. First things first, one needs to learn and study. The more knowledgeable you get, the more will be your creative instincts. You also need to be a keen observer. This will bring in more ideas to your brain which will give rise to your creative thoughts. Almost all creators and thinkers have stressed on the power of keen observing. There is no age for creativity. Even small children can show immense signs of creativity.

Types of creativity

Creativity is possible in almost all aspects of life and thinking. However, it is most possible in areas which involve portrayal of your thoughts and emotions. Some of the popular fields where humans have always produced masterpieces through creative instructs are literature, music, paintings and fine arts, mathematics, science, sculpture and architecture, designing, dance, teaching, science and lots more. In fact in whatever little thing you do, it can be done in a creative manner with originality of thought.

The study and emergence of creativity has in fact made it a popular industry as well. There are a number of industries where one needs to use his or her creative instincts and create new ideas. Some of the well known sectors where creativity is very much used are advertising, writing, linguistics, marketing and communications, designing, architecture, music, films and entertainment, science, engineering and so on. One can be a successful professional by working in these sectors and using the creative skills.
