Business In New York

This situation consistently amazes me and can destroy any business in new york that doesn’t understand or accept a simple concept.  As much as we don’t like it, this rule must stay current as a way to appreciate not only the top website designers but also allow everyone in the industry to stay focus and trade equally.

As a web designer ny, I have witnessed as well as experienced so many tragic results from the misunderstanding between project fee and schedule/fee.

The reason for extension fee on web design projects has only 1.  The major reason is if extending the time involved, it is also extending the work involved, also extending the person’s time and work involved.

I tried to use this simple example to explain to one of my previous clients in the late 20’s. It turned out to be discriminating in some sexist way.  I had no clue; I thought it was a good way to simply put why extending timeline should result in an extension agreement.

Of course the whole argument began by this statement: “I paid you a project fee, it’s in the proposal that we signed”.

My immediately response was, “The proposal also stated supply of materials date as such and such”.

His response, “well, uh, I paid 50% deposit up front for you to start the project.  I can’t believe you are charging me more.  That’s not what we talked about.”

My response, “you are right, that’s not what we talked about (implying the delay from client side on supplying materials for the web design new york”.

So I gave this example, thinking it might help him understand.

“Similar to a woman shopping:

We follow industry practice that client approval and remaining balance are required before delivery of web files, similar to a COD situation.  We have to keep this practice in place to protect ourselves.  We have done businesses with hundreds of clients and we have always delivered upon client final approval and outstanding balance.

With a CMS you will get a very easy interface which would mainly be based on simple forms. And you can use this interface to input all necessary information for several web pages without too much of technical knowledge. Therefore, the need for technical maintenance is easily reduced. And the interesting bit with a CMS is, it can automatically use your input data, process it and prepare desired outputs for you so that you will get additional SEO benefits for your web based business.

If you do not have an associated CMS, i.e. that only some static pages, you will get into lots of troubles in case of Search Engine Optimization. As to maintain the level of optimization in a static site you definitely need to have proper technical knowledge and web development skills to associate SEO requirements to your website.
